Is New York in the house? This past weekend was all about “Harlem Nights” in Fort Lauderdale at Muse Center for the Arts. Everyone dressed in “Harlem Nights” attire and came ready to enjoy their night. The ambiance was that of a dark speakeasy, with an entertainment lineup to match. There were so many memorable acts, poets that sent chills down your spine like: @elainathepoet on IG, her piece was so powerful. So truthful, Spiritual yet so satisfying. Another poet, @moritaiye on IG brought us an erotic poem that had everyone asking for her to “rewind” (a term used in poetry to tell the artist to repeat themselves). The drinks were flowing and the mood was set for the later musical acts. There was just so much talent in one room! Singer @stonyftony on IG had the ladies singing a catchy chorus, his charisma and dare we say his oversized Harlem themed coat screamed “I’m here to be heard”. One thing about this event is that everyone was there in support of each other’s art form. Supersized singer, song writer and producer @steavye on IG who joked about not being “tall enough” was definitely a crowd pleaser. He had a huge personality and those vocals, let’s just say he has major STAR power. After speaking with the Muse Center’s new studio manager and host of the event @frankieredwordz on IG, we were shocked to find out this event and lineup was put together in one week! How can something so great have been organized in such a short PERIOD of time ? When you have the support of your fellow artists, you make one call, one announcement and you get a group of entertaining acts who want to be where ever you are! Be sure to follow the artists above, and book @museartsofficial (on IG ) for any events you may have coming up. They also offer many programs from dance to vocal lessons for our next generation. Other artists at the event that you should follow on IG right now are: @alana_luv26, @theofficialcharliet, @tharahsings, @j_juggs, @roycexx1. Stay tuned as we are sure we will be back at this venue real soon!

Every second Thursday of the month it’s all about the “Love Jones” experience! @tjhope_presents on IG. Hosted by our very own Curvy Host @frankieredwordz on IG! This place was so low key and welcoming. We went for their “Lover’s & Friends” Pre- Valentine’s Day showcase and had an amazing experience. When we got there, all ladies received a rose at the door. Doors opened at 7p and as the night went on it was apparent that there was something for everyone’s taste. From soulful singers to poets and comedians. The main event was a saxophone Player (@theKeenanexperience on IG). He had all the ladies in a trance while he played his sax to the beat of famous R&B tunes. Later in the night Frankie joined him in a beautiful rendition of Tyrese’s “Sweet Lady”. Vendors set up in one area and included: lipsticks, clothes, and hair products. Seating was spaced out and chairs had no arms. This event at Krave Lounge in Sunrise is definitely plus size friendly !
Curvy gang members Kat and Alex have been keeping with their new year’s resolutions. They’ve been staying active by attending a local Afro-Caribbean dance class.
The instructor, Alisha Caesar who is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma teaches the high energy class in South Florida. She has been teaching dance fitness for 8 years. She currently teaches “Zumba” and “Buss A Dance Afro-Caribbean Dance” at Soak ah Sweat in Margate, FL. Upon arrival, you claim your dance spot and class begins. We recommend bringing water and a towel for all that forehead sweat! The moves are fast paced, but she walks around the room and ensures everyone is comfortable with the routines. Alisha has a huge warming smile and is ultimately there to make sure you have FUN! Her love for music shows through her high energy. Alex says “When she enters the studio she gets excited because she uses dancing as a form of expression and to help release stress. “ Alex continues by commenting that “Alisha plays music you can’t help but to dance to. “ Overall, the class is what you make it, you can intensify the moves or make them simpler for your body. The classes are inclusive for all sizes, and all fitness levels are welcomed. Alisha, the instructor is on Instagram @lisagyal72. Due to current Coronavirus class restrictions and to allow for social distancing you must contact her prior to attending class. We hope that you enjoy this class as much as we did! |
